Cuesta College has announced its Book of the Year selection for 2018, which will be the 10th anniversary of this popular community reads program.
Renowned author and speaker Ron Suskind will be on campus Monday, March 19, 2018, to discuss his recent memoir, Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes, and Autism. His bestselling book shares his family's two-decade journey connecting to Owen, his son with autism.
Today, autism affects an astonishing one out of every one hundred children in the U.S.  Suskind’s moving narrative chronicles his family’s resilience and perseverance when their world is turned upside down.  It also delves into Owen’s deep connection or “affinity” with Disney movies and how those with autism can use affinities as tools for personal and social growth.  See the Suskind family’s community site http://lifeanimated.net/  to learn more about the ongoing scientific research surrounding affinities and their potential power in helping individuals with autism.
Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Suskind will be appearing for a presentation and book-signing event from 5-7 pm at the Cuesta San Luis Obispo CPAC theater. Tickets will go on sale in February 2018:  cpactickets.cuesta.edu
Details will be announced soon on a fall event to be held as a kick off for the 2018 Cuesta Book of the Year program.
